Why Green Buildings make good business sense: Sustainability infrastructure for Strata Buildings

The ‘Energy Evolution in Strata Buildings’ breakfast seminar is aimed to better inform strata managers of the options available to improve and embed smart energy systems and technologies that reduce overall electricity demand and costs within residential strata buildings.

Since 2009 residential tariffs have jumped over 67% – from 11c to 26c per unit. This year the supply charge doubled to around $100 per bill cycle in an attempt by the Government to help repair the budget and help meet the costs of generating and transporting electricity through the network. The decline in demand due to smart energy efficiency improvements to office buildings, and cheaper technologies such as roof-top Solar have also influenced price rises.

Other influencing factors such as Strata Title Reforms and the inclusion of Sustainability Infrastructure provisions as well as proposed NABERS energy performance disclosure for Apartment Buildings (common area) further highlight the need for WA strata managers to be on the front foot and proactive in understanding the energy and overall sustainability options suitable for buildings they manage.
